Can we take a little bit of a timeout to talk about what’s hot in the neon valley streets? FYI Janelle Monáe is still high steppin in them saddle shoes singing love songs to cyborgs. As of 4/1/08 I hadn’t put this crazy gal from Kansas City on my playlist in months. This morning, after a long span of out of sight out of mind, just when the whole android theme was seeming like a played-out fad, I jammed her mini-album in the headphones. For all of you that must have forgot, the Sincerely Jane track bangs just as hard as it did in October. I had to play that joint today because this morning I looked in my inbox and I had a message from Janelle’s camp, the Wondaland Arts Society. On April Fools Day the WAS sent out a message to all of the cyboys and cybergirls in their rolodex announcing that they recently shook hands with the shiny suit man, signing into effect a new “joint venture” with Bad Boy records. As my homestate rounds the homeplate in the campaign to put the “messenger of hope” on the november ballot, i ask for all buckeye voters to cast their ballots with spirit-filled intention. It is the intention of the class of 2012 to build a nu amerykah. We ohioans want to make the river valley a safe and sacred space for the youth. Mothers and fathers in badu’s homestate of texas surely want the very same thing for their little cowboys and girls.

We are doing this whole voting thing to show a little bit of solidarity, but don’t get it twisted we also do a little bit of praying. Read More »
